"Oshkosh businessman may oppose Feingold

May 15, 2010

An Oshkosh businessman is expected to enter the U.S. Senate race next week, becoming the fourth Republican challenger to Democratic incumbent Russ Feingold.

A campaign spokesman says Ron Johnson will announce his candidacy Monday.

The announcement has been expected for weeks. Johnson had been rumored as a possible candidate ever since he gave a number of well-received speeches at tea party events.

Johnson is the president of Pacur. The private Oshkosh company makes plastic packaging materials and has over 100 employees.

The three GOP candidates already in the race are former Wisconsin Commerce Secretary Dick Leinenkugel, Madison developer Terrence Wall and Watertown businessman Dave Westlake.

The GOP primary is Sept. 14."

Appleton Democrat spent $297,688 in taxpayer funds on franking in 2009

By LEDYARD KING and LARRY BIVINS • Press-Gazette Washington Bureau lbivins@greenbaypressgazette.com • May 15, 2010

WASHINGTON — Public opinion of Congress is hovering at an all-time low, but that hasn't stopped lawmakers from reaching out at taxpayers' expense.

House members collectively spent more than $45 million in 2009 on taxpayer-funded mass mailings, phone calls and electronic messaging — known as franking — to trumpet their records to constituents, alert them to town hall meetings and seek feedback, a review of House documents shows.

Wisconsin lawmakers spent $1.1 million, led by Rep. Steve Kagen's $297,688. Close behind was Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Menomonee Falls, who spent $277,975.

Reps. Dave Obey, D-Wausau, and Gwen Moore, D-Milwaukee, were among the more frugal House members on franking, with Moore spending the least at $224."

The difference between Kagen and Obey and Moore is they don't have to campaign to hold their seat. Kagen is running for his future which does not look good right now.

It's only your tax dollars he's spending.

Kevorkian's van to be offered at auction again

DETROIT (AP) -- Spurned by the eBay online auction site, the owner of a van in which Dr. Jack Kevorkian performed several assisted suicides is offering it at a real-time auction.

Jera Cline is assistant to auctioneer Dean Kruse and says the 1968 Volkswagen van is scheduled for bids Saturday afternoon at Auburn Auctions in Auburn, Ind.

Retired auto parts dealer Jack Finn has said he bought the van in 1997. Finn listed it on eBay last month, but the site pulled the ad after saying it would violate the company's policy against selling "murderabilia."

Kevorkian used the van while assisting in several deaths, including the poisoning of an Alzheimer's patient that launched his public effort in 1990. He was convicted of second-degree murder in a 1998 death." EHExtra.com

Way To Go Joe Kernen, CNBC

Watching Squawk Box this morning on CNBC and the Obamas comment, "go play with yourself" about Rush came up. Carl played dumb, Becky made the STUPID comment that Rush did not comment on the Page Six article and Joe Kernen hit it out of the park. Paraphrasing, he (Rush) did comment, Rush said they had the wrong guy, they were talking about Bill Clinton. Way to go Joe!

Joe Kernan and Rick Santelli are the only two people on CNBC who say it like it is. The rest of the network is just a bunch of lackeys for the left. If FoxBusiness could get Kernen and Santelli,

I sure would order Fox Business.Joe and Rick are the only reason I watch CNBC.

"JOE KERNEN
"Squawk Box" Co-Anchor
Joe Kernen is co-anchor of "Squawk Box," (M-F, 6 -9 a.m. ET) CNBC's signature morning program. "Squawk Box" is a fast paced, irreverent look at the world of Wall Street, and the longest running program on the network. Kernen is based in CNBC’s global headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, N.J."
Joe Kernen Profile, Biography, About - CNBC

I have Rick Santelli's autograph and sure would like to somehow get Joe Kernen's.

It would be worth $25 to a charity to see Joe Kernen and Rush Limbaugh golf 18 together. I heard Joe is a good golfer.

Hey Kit Carson, can you set something like that up?

Wisconsin Wolves Heading South

From the Shawano Leader

Wolf attack in Shawano Ccounty,
Town of Red Springs
"“My dad’s dog came running up to us, crying and panicked almost it seemed, and then she took off running back in the same direction she came from,” Rosenow said. “We knew something was wrong and we took off running.”

As they entered the woods, they spotted several wolves attacking Tank.

“One of the wolves saw my dad’s dog and charged right at her. Then it saw my cousin and me and took off running,” Rosenow said.

The other wolves then ceased their attack on Tank and ran off as well."

It's comforting to know the WDNR has the wolf population under control.Next thing you know they will be south of Shawano, then south of Appleton and someday Oshkosh, where will it end?

"Sportsmen rip DNR for ad with Humane Society
Radio campaign warns people not to take in wild pets

By TODD RICHMOND • The Associated Press • May 14, 2010

MADISON — A group of sportsmen and legislators criticized the state Department of Natural Resources for joining the Humane Society on a radio campaign, saying Thursday that the partnership destroys the agency's credibility.

The DNR and the Humane Society of the United States are collaborating on radio announcements warning people not to take young wild animals as pets.

Wisconsin Wildlife Federation President Jack Nissen said he doesn't have a problem with warning people to leave animals alone, but the DNR shouldn't have aligned with the Humane Society to produce the campaign.

Nissen said the Humane Society opposes hunting, trapping and animal agriculture, in direct opposition to the DNR's wildlife management and farm regulatory duties. He said he feared the partnership could lead to the Humane Society pressuring the DNR to tighten hunting regulations.

State Sen. Neal Kedzie, R-Elkhorn, wrote to DNR Secretary Matt Frank and said he was "appalled" at the DNR's relationship with the Humane Society, especially when hunters are already upset with the agency after a weak November deer hunt.

DNR Chief Warden Randy Stark, who is in charge of the radio campaign, insisted the DNR still considers its partnerships with hunters, anglers and trappers critical. He said the agency decided to approach the Humane Society because of its anti-poaching stance and contributions to rewards in animal thrill-kill investigations.

The Humane Society agreed to match the DNR's $6,000 investment in the ads, enabling the purchase of more air time, Stark said.

Senate Majority Leader Russ Decker, D-Weston, said in a statement that he can't believe the state is spending $6,000 so Stark can "play advertising executive with out-of-state groups.""

Farmers Get Screwed, Spending Obama's Stash

What does the Dept. of Ag have to do with defibrillators, two sand/dump trucks and a pick up truck? Shouldn't money spent by the Dept. of Ag be spent on helping farmers, food development, food handling, food safety? A sand truck????????????????

I understand all these are needed but who is paying for all this?

The reason for all this excessive spending is in the last sentence. I give credit to Nikki and the Iron Mountain Daily News for reporting it. I will highlight in red so you don't miss it.

"Iron County seeks USDA grants, loans
By NIKKI YOUNK, Staff Writer
POSTED: May 12, 2010

CRYSTAL FALLS - Iron County agencies are looking to take advantage of funds provided through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development.

Four applications for grants and loans are currently in the works.

One application is for a grant of $8,000, which will go toward the $25,000 purchase of 17 heart defibrillators. The new defibrillators will be used to replace old defibrillators in the sheriff's department, police departments, fire departments, and ambulances.

The remaining $17,000 for the project will be raised through donations.

Two other USDA Rural Development applications are for two grants of $85,000, which will go toward the purchase of two sander/dump trucks for the Iron County Road Commission.

In order to receive the money, each grant must have an equal, local match. Iron County Administrator Jan Huizing suggested that the road commission could get a loan to pay the local match.

Representatives from the road commission said that the new trucks are sorely needed. The commission's newest truck is four years old, while its oldest trucks are 30 years old.

The fourth application is for a $24,000 grant, which will go toward the purchase of a new pickup truck for the Iron County Search and Rescue Team.

The grant requires a $21,000 local match.

Undersheriff Tom Courchaine explained that the search and rescue team is entirely volunteer and funded mostly by donations. The team is currently using an old ambulance and a 1991 pickup truck.

The team also operates the Jaws of Life for the west side of Iron County, Commissioner Bob Black added.

Huizing assured the board that submitting so many applications at once would not hurt the chances of receiving the grant money.

"Rural Development has solicited us," he said. "They still have stimulus money and they want to see that get out into communities.""

I am not blaming the people of Michigan for this, I blame the democrats, Obama and the left in federal government. We do not need to spend money we don't have.

Update; How can I be so forgetful?

KAGEN IS FIGHTING TO PROTECT
OUR FOOD AND FARM FAMILIES

April 23, 2009

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Kagen, M.D. is looking out for your health and the safety of our food. Today, the House Agriculture Committee’s Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry held a hearing to review federal food safety systems at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

“American consumers must be assured that our food is safe and nutritional; that when it is offered for sale it will help to sustain our good health - not harm it,” said Dr. Kagen. It is up to the United States Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration to handle this responsibility.”

The subcommittee heard from food safety inspectors and meat, pork and poultry producers about the state of food inspection in the United States.

The USDA is responsible for food safety measures for the nation’s meat supply while the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for nearly every other type of food, including peanuts. Many in the agriculture community, including U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, believe that to achieve the necessary food inspection standards a single food safety agency must be created.

At the same time, we must act in a fiscally responsible manner and insure that those who are importing food into our country accept the responsibility and cost of fully inspecting their products to our standards. We cannot spend our hard-earned tax dollars on helping foreign importers. If they want to sell their products here, they must follow our rules,” said the Congressman.

Kagen, who is the only Wisconsin Representative on the House Agriculture Committee, fought for food safety provisions in the Farm Bill including changes to existing law to allow schools to include locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables for lunches; The New Markets for Interstate Meat program which allows small meat producers to be able to ship their product across the state lines provided they have met state levels of inspection; and a certification process for organic food.

No Guts, No Glory

Seems school boards across the state have no guts to do what is right and live with in their budgets.

From JSOnline.
"Wisconsin's schools chief ramped up lobbying efforts Tuesday for a $23 billion education jobs bill pending in Washington that could stave off teacher layoffs next year.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Evers said that if the bill passes Congress, it could bring more than $400 million to Wisconsin in extra stimulus funding, enough to save thousands of full-time teaching positions across the state next school year.

"We're in a desperate situation here," Evers said. "It's a one-year fix, but it's a fix worth pursuing.""
Bill in Congress could supply $400 million to save state educators' jobs - JSOnline

Seems also Evers has no spine and has to try to protest his pals (teachers) by asking for more federal money. Let me rephrase that, Evers is only doing what WEAC is telling him. Go to Washington and save our (raises and pension) sorry butts! Goes to show how important even the state superintendent elections are in Wisconsin.

Just remember they will say "it's for the children." Give us money or we take away sports, take away band, take away buses to get the children to school.

Will voters roll over and get a big fat property tax increase or tell districts to live with in their means. When will you see riots in the streets and picket lines from the very same people that tell parents we care for their children and only teach them because they care for their education. The same people with Obama stickers on their cars.

Side note, will all candidates running for the congressional 8th district  including Kagen weigh in on what should be done or would they vote for a teacher bail out? What say you?

Rick Santelli Does It Again

From Drudge and John Boehner.
This morning on CNBC I seen this and wondered if we would see a you tube of Rick Santelli rip a liberal democrat on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Why is it only said by Rick Santelli?

I know this is from John Boehner's office but why don't republicans say this to democrats more often?

Are they AFRAID of the MSM?

Let us not forget it was Rick who started the tea party movement. This makes my autograph from Rick Santelli worth a lot more.

Thank You Mr Santelli.

Dems’ Financial “Reform” Leaves Taxpayers on the Hook for Government Mortgage Giants

Washington, May 11 - Follow @GOPLeader on Twitter for updates.

Democrats still don’t get it, and they refuse to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government mortgage companies that sparked the meltdown by giving high-risk loans to people who couldn’t afford it. Standing up for American taxpayers, CNBC’s on-air editor, Rick Santelli teed off on Rep. Paul Kanjorski’s (D-PA) claim that Democrats’ couldn’t reform Fannie & Freddie in their financial regulation bill because it was “too complicated,” asking: “It’s too complicated? You think taxpayers that go to work to pay the money you are subsidizing, it will end up a half a trillion, do you think they think complicated is an excuse?”

Thank You Steve Kagen

I'm sure glad Congressman Steve Kagen "worked hard" for the people of the Fox Valley and Wisconsin.

From the Appleton P C
"The boost from the convention will be welcomed by the Fox Cities tourism industry, which saw a 10.9 percent drop in visitor spending in 2009. Last year, Fox Cities visitors spent about $360 million, down from $403 million in 2008.

The state had a 7.8 percent drop in visitor spending, finishing 2009 with $12 billion, down from $13.1 billion in 2008. Davidson-Peterson Associates, a division of Digital Research Inc. in Kennebunk, Maine, compiled the numbers, which were released Monday."
Recession blamed for drop in Fox Cities tourism spending | postcrescent.com | Appleton Post Crescent

With help like this, glad he didn't vote for any bailout bills, socialized medicine, bloated budget deficits, government take over of car companies and the rest that could slow down the economy. Dog gone it, he did vote for that and more.

Steve does (votes for) everything Nancy Pelosi tells him to do.

Thank you Mr. Kagen.

PS, Steve's got to go in November or maybe he can retire from congress.
